religion: a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons
Something random about me...
If you were to search my iTunes you would see that anything by Jimmy Buffett is categorized by Religious. I believe it fits the above definition and is much less likely to cause war than most religious beliefs out there.

T-shirts are important dammit
Have had a couple inquiries about 'The T-Shirt Mission'
Which shirts have you gotten?
Key West (Feb 2009)
Orlando (Sept 2009)
Nashville (June 2011)
New Orleans (Aug 2011)
LuLu's (Aug 2011)
Lately they have been opening them faster than we can get there. Especially the Canadian ones. Over the past year we have had two big trips that we planned to get additional ones (including my original Bachelorette party) that were cancelled due to outside influences. Apparently planning in advance doesn't work for us so we've resorted to last minute shenanigans.
Dennis is the only person besides the two of us (LittleBro and I) that has a guaranteed invitation to go on the adventure. Everyone else is chosen based on what is going on at the time. When I went cruising last year I had a shot at four others in a matter of days, but couldn't do it because LittleBro wasn't there - that would have been breaking the rules.
The goal is - once we get all of them - to have my mom make us each a t-shirt quilt with pieces from each of them. We are quite particular about what the shirt looks like and how the graphics are done and where it says the name of the city that we are in. It is a science really.
With the possibilities of babies in the future we have kicked around some strategies of when and where we need to go before that all happens.
One big random adventure. That's how we roll.

August Resolution Update
Updated adventures for the month of August...
For the middle brother's belated 30th birthday our baby brother and I took him (and our significant others) on one of our famous random adventures. We were originally going to try Padre, but there was a fishing tournament in town that interfered. We decided on the following (and managed to work two of our t-shirts from our mission into the whole thing*):
Fly to New Orleans
Drive to the ferry in Mississippi and float to Alabama
Go to LuLu's (Jimmy Buffett's sister's place in Gulf Shores)
Stay in Mobile (because when are you ever really going to do that in your life)
Drive back to New Orleans
Spend the day in the French Quarter
Fly home.
It was a busy, but fun, 40 hour trip. Tried new places, tried new beverages, had a random adventure good time.
Fired an intern. Ugh
First Fantasy Football Draft. We shall see how I do. A lot of picking was absolutely guess work (and one was because I got over exuberant with the draft button).
*there has been an adjustment to the rules of the mission. Dennis no longer has to be present. We just couldn't get the scheduling right and he bowed out. So LittleBro and I are the essential components and so far we've had someone different with us each time.

The Bachelorette Party
As may have mentioned before (I did here) we are having quite the unconventional wedding and absolutely enjoying the festivities and planning so far.
Next week the 'official' bachelorette shenanigan begins. My Maid of Honor (littest brother), His roommate (JRay), The best bridesmaid ever (Dennis) and I are going on a mission for random Buffett shirts. We have planned to hit five Margaritavilles spread out throughout the country in three days.
Start (Texas) -- New Orleans, LA -- Nashville, TN -- Mohegan Sun, CT -- Niagara, Canada -- Las Vegas, NV -- and then back home.
Don't worry -- I got pink sashes for each of them to wear the whole time.
The manfolk and the Maid of Honor's woman are planning on catching a flight to meet us in Vegas for the last day of randomness.

Now if we could only get Margaritaville to sponsor this boondoggle...

Unconventional Wedding
To match my unconventional wedding I am having an unconventional bridal party. My littlest brother is my maid of honor, my middle brother is a bridesmaid and Dennis (of NSFD) is my other bridesmaid.
So of course we are doing unconventional things to celebrate.
Right now we are plotting how to: get a slew of Jimmy Buffett shirts, a new tattoo and possibly skydive all in the three days we have planned for a flying standby across the country adventure. And at the end we plan to be on the beach where we will meet the manfolk and some friends for a day (or so) in the sun.
Should be a big bag of random.

Top Ten Songs
At the moment in no particular order:
Reba McIntyre -- Consider Me Gone
Cross Canadian Ragweed -- Alabama
Kenny Chesney -- The Life
Zac Brown Band -- Jolene
Jimmy Buffett -- A Pirate Looks at Forty
Eve 6 -- Anytime
Kenny Chesney and Mac MacAnally -- Down the Road
Sara Evans -- Three Chords and the Truth
Charlie Robison -- My Hometown
Sugarland -- Already Gone
Although I am generally torn when it comes to choosing between songs when it comes to Zac Brown Band and Jimmy Buffett.

The theme for May
Seems to be music. Never realized how much it flows through my life... but it does every day. Not only with games I play or my song each morning. Two Jimmy Buffett concerts in a matter of days and I'm still listening to a live CD in the car on my way to and from work.
Love it when a song just speaks to you. Even if there is just a line or two. Jimmy happens to have done some of my favorites. One song I was lukewarm on at first that has really grown on me (don't rat me out, but it took looking up the lyrics for me to grow) -- Southern Cross(lyrics below). If you haven't heard it I recommend giving it a listen.
SOUTHERN CROSS
Got out of town on a boat for the Southern Islands
Sailing to reach before a following sea
She was makin' for the Trades on the outside
And the downhill run to Papeete
Off the wind on this heading lie the Marquesas
We got eighty feet of waterline, nicely making way
In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you
But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
I have been around the world looking for that woman girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
And you know it will
When you see the Southern Cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
'Cause the truth you might be runnin' from is so small
But it's as big as the promise, the promise of a coming day
So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are a dyin'
And my love is an anchor tied to you, tied with a silver chain
I have my ship and all her flags are a flyin'
She is all I have left and music is her name
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me, larger voices callin'
What heaven brought you and me cannot be forgotten
I have been around the world lookin' for that woman girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
And you know it will
So we cheated and we lied and we tested
And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do
You will survive being bested, somebody fine will come along
Make me forget about loving you and the Southern Cross

Following an obsession
Was lucky enough last week to get to see Jimmy Buffett in concert twice. Took a half day Thursday and headed to Houston with the manfolk becase some parrothead friends of his had bought tickets and demanded our presence. It was in the Woodlands -- excellent concert, great venue and fantastic people. Friday we came back home to briefly recover and then Saturday morning we went out to Frisco with friends and the Lone Star Parrot Head Club to see him again at Pizza Hut Park. Greatest tailgate ever.
Too much fun, too bad it is only once a year.
Always loved Buffett. Lucky to find a manfolk that loves him just as much (quite probably more). Hoping one day for that laid back beach lifestyle for the two of us.
Here is to sunsets, good friends, boat drinks and holding hands with toes in the sand.

On the adventure front
I think I've found something to look forward to... but there is a back story.
Last February I had just moved out and really had a lot going on, and no washer and dryer. So each Sunday I found myself on my brother's recliner doing my laundry and watching movies we have seen a thousand times and drinking beer and talking about life. Well, we are both fans of beaches and adventures and Jimmy Buffett. So we decided to task ourselves with going to every Jimmy Buffett store/cafe and getting a tshirt specific to that location. We started with the first Margaritaville, Key West (see earlier post). Like I said, it was an awesome time. My good friend Dennis joined us (one of my closest friends on the planet who also happens to have a passion for Boat Drinks) and we laid out some rules:
1. It was decided that in order for these adventures to occur all three of us have to be there. That has been a challenge, as often one or two of us are in a town with a Margaritaville without the others and don't dare even enter the establishment. Other people can join us (Toots and Hair went with us to Key West) and the manfolk was there for Orlando, but the three of us HAVE to be there.
2. We must accomplish 3 or more shirts per year (we failed in 2009 with a whopping two).
So, on to this year. On the way back from lunch today I called my brother and we decided on the next t-shirt adventure, we are going for a record four shirts at once. Should be quite random and really the adventure will be a success if we get even one. Time to iron out the details and put it on the calendar...
